Being a designer means you get to be creative almost every day. But it’s almost always for someone else and almost always involves spending hours in front of a computer. So sometimes it’s nice to just take a break and do art the old fashioned way…with some paint and a big ol’ canvas. I needed some art for the wall of my bedroom and desperately needed some downtime by the time it came to Friday evening, so I spent the evening painting outside on my patio and managed to finish the whole thing except a few minor touch ups that I did on Sunday.
As far as my inspiration, I spent a lot of time on Pinterest finding easy do it yourself art since my painting skills aren’t quite as good as my photoshop skills. I got the idea for using painters tape to make the white lines from this site but I wanted mine to have a little more texture and color to it. Being the nerdy designer I am, I came up with the basic idea in photoshop and then used it as a guide to my painting. I improvised as I went along and overall, I’m pretty happy with the outcome…which is good since I’m going to be staring at it every day. If you need some time away from a computer screen and to recharge your brain, I highly suggest spending some time with some paint and canvas, even if don’t consider yourself an artist. Just find something that inspires you, find some tips and tricks online and see what happens…you might surprise yourself.
